Truly Madly Guilty - Liane Moriarty
Reading Challenge Category: I gave Morgan 5 random book titles of books I fancied reading and he chose this one.
Six responsible adults, two best friends - and one day that changes everything. 'This is a story which begins with a barbecue in the suburbs. . .' By the end of it a lifelong friendship will be in tatters, a marriage on the rocks and an innocent bystander dead. In just one evening six lives will change for ever . . .
This was an odd one; I spent the first 60% of the book desperate to know WHAT happened at the barbecue?? I was wracking my brains to think what could have traumatised them all so much. I’d guessed it was something to do with what it was to do with very close to it being revealed (I won’t say as I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn’t read this!) but not the specifics. However, the remaining 40% of the book I kept expecting a twist, but it was more the couples coming to terms and overcoming what had happened. I kept thinking the worst of the neighbour Harry but what really happened made me cry! The relationships were very stilted, and I’m hoping that was intentional, but they even felt a little stilted between the spouses BEFORE the barbecue soooo I’m not sure. It was still a good read, but I kept expecting more from Moriarty after the other books I’ve read of hers and from the Big Little Lies series that I’ve watched!
