About Me

Me
Hi, I’m Helen, and you may have figured this already, but I love reading and love books! Gasp, horror, such a surprise! I’ve been an avid reader ever since I read Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers when I was younger; this progressed into Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley High books in my teens. Then more recently I’ve been really upping the reading game ever since I finished my MA in English Linguistics. I’ve become fascinated even more by the written word. I am in awe with the vast quantity of books in the world that I won’t even come close to reading, but I’m determined to make a big dint!

A few years ago, I decided to start keeping track of what I was reading as I was finding that I was forgetting whether I’d read a book or what I’d thought of it. The more books I read I realised I wanted to do something with the ‘reviews’ I was writing, so I have developed this site. This gives me a platform to post my thoughts, whether they be good or bad, agreed with or not.

The collector
I used only to be interested in chick lit and romance books, but for the past couple of years I have been doing a Reading Challenge to broaden my horizons, and I have surprised myself by discovering a liking for Psychological horrors and crime fiction. The books that usually take me out of my comfort zone have, typically, been my favourites for that year. It was a few years ago, and I was dreading reading ‘The Collector by John Fowles’, but this ended up being my favourite that year as it really pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Heaven
My favourite book of all time and that I read at least every other year, though, is ‘Heaven by Virginia Andrews’. I am due to re-read this next year. I don’t know what it is about it, but it is like visiting family when I re-read it.

NetGalley

I came across this incredible way to review books ahead of their release via a site called NetGalley, and I am very proud to be a member. If I request a book and am approved, I will always read every book I have requested, and I always review every book I have read.

ARCs

I am happy to be contacted to review books and can be reached via my Contact Me page. Unfortunately, I can not review all books submitted or requested, but I will respond to all inquiries! I, currently, can't accept any books that are widely out of my comfort zone. My usual genres are women's fiction, romance, psychological thrillers, crime fiction and new adult romance. I don't really like sci-fi or fantasy so I won't be able to accept them to review as ARCs.
