My Thoughts:
Up to about 50% into this book, it was a solid five stars. I couldn’t put it down; it was gripping and thrilling and different to anything I’d read recently. I’m full of cold and needed an early night, but I just couldn’t put it down. However, the second half of the book took a bit of a surreal turn, and I couldn’t quite get on board with all of the protagonist’s decisions. I still read it really fast to find out the outcome, and my heart was still in my mouth while a lot of the action was played out. However, it just all got a bit far-fetched. Luckily, this is a short book at just 232 pages so it can be devoured in a short space of time. The sections back in time are well interspersed as you aren’t 100% sure of the relevance or where it is going to lead especially as Anna is leading such a different life just a couple of years later. This really builds the suspense. The tension and twists are certainly there in this book, and it is what kept me hooked, but the character, Anna, was just frustrating. She created more problems by her inability to act or involve the police, which I know was adding to the story, but it just didn’t make sense. So even though I literally inhaled this book, there was a lot wrong with it that got it downgraded to a four-star read. I’d still recommend it but just be prepared to be slightly frustrated!
