Official Blurb:
I never could hide from him. Kane Legend always finds me. And now he’s found out the truth. The dark secret I’ve been hiding, the one that’s been slowly poisoning me from the inside out. The pain of the words falling from my lips, is nothing compared to the look of devastation in his eyes. Or the rage that follows. The way I thought he hated me back then is nothing compared to the damage he can do now. His revenge is vicious. Cruel. And I’m reminded of my deception at every turn. But everything isn’t always as it seems. I’m not the only one with secrets. And his have the power to ruin me... This time for good.
My Thoughts:
This is the third book in the series and a direct follow on from the cliffhanger in the last book. This can definitely not be read as a standalone, and the previous books need to have been read to understand the characters’ relationships and the basic foundation of the story. We last saw Kane finding out some devastating news from Letty and taking off at speed in his car. He, of course, crashes, and we were left hanging, not knowing his fate or the outcome of the story as a whole. This isn’t the final instalment of the story; I believe there will be one more book. I did feel at times like it was a filler book leaping from one cliffhanger to another. When reading this, the problem was that everyone was posting on Facebook how fantastic the ending of this book was and that they couldn’t believe the author had left them waiting for the next part to find out what would happen. So, with this in mind, I went in with high expectations. I was expecting to be blown away by the shocking events at the end. In fact, it was this thought that kept me picking up the book to read as; otherwise, it was quite a slow story; not a lot happens. The characters are overcoming their problems, and we do get some answers to questions we were left with at the end of the last book. However, I found the pace quite sedentary and repetitive. The ending, for me, was a bit of a letdown. I know I am in the minority with this opinion, but I felt like this kind of storyline has been done before. I was expecting something innovative and explosive. It wasn’t. Maybe if it hadn’t have been so hyped on social media, I would have been just as enthralled, but I wanted something more based on everyone’s reactions. Overall, I was disappointed by this book. I’d enjoyed the previous two, and the characters were fun. I could tell the twins, Luca and Leon, apart, but in this book, they had somehow morphed into the same character, and I couldn’t tell who was who. Kane’s character started to grate on me; how he has any friends is beyond me as all he does is grunt at everyone. On the other hand, Letty grew on me as she started to toughen up and wasn’t so weak. I’m in two minds about whether to continue with this series. On the one hand, I want to know how it will all end, but on the other, I’m not sure I want to read the same thing over and over like I felt I was doing with this book.
