My Thoughts:

"The Little House" by Phillips Gregory evokes a complex blend of emotions within me. Initially, I was engrossed in the narrative as I turned page after page, but upon completing the book, my overall enjoyment left me with a sense of ambiguity. Throughout the entire book, I couldn't help but feel on edge, constantly anticipating something ominous to unfold. Surprisingly, this anticipation was only fulfilled in the book's very last 10 minutes, and the resolution felt hurried, leaving me yearning for more closure and depth.
Ruth, the book's central character, elicited a profound sense of sympathy from me. She seemed to be battling a world that was relentlessly against her, with a glaring lack of understanding and support from those around her. Patrick, her husband, was a source of constant frustration for me, with his apparent deficiency in showing compassion and empathy. Ironically, though the mother-in-law was positioned as the character we were meant to despise the most, it was Patrick whom I grew to truly disdain.
In the grand scheme of things, "The Little House" is undeniably a commendable read. This conclusion is supported by the discussions within my book club, where it appears that many members found it engaging and thought-provoking. Nonetheless, I couldn't help but feel a lingering desire for more substantial events throughout the narrative. It left me wanting a little more to happen and a more gradual unfolding of the plot to fully captivate my imagination.
