The Fear - C.L. Taylor
Reading Challenge Category: 0.99p from Amazon
When Lou Wandsworth ran away to France with her teacher Mike Hughes, she thought he was the love of her life. But Mike wasn’t what he seemed and he left her life in pieces. Now 32, Lou discovers that he is involved with teenager Chloe Meadows. Determined to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself, she returns home to confront him for the damage he’s caused. But Mike is a predator of the worst kind, and as Lou tries to bring him to justice, it’s clear that she could once again become his prey…
I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down, I started reading it on the plane to Cyprus on holiday (by giving my husband my list of 24’ £1 or under’ book titles and saying pick one for me to read!) and had finished it by the first night of my holiday! I can’t believe it was only released this year, and I managed to grab it for just 99p, what a bargain! I would have paid the full price it was brilliant, and I have now found a new author in the process of this new challenge I have set myself! I’d guessed who Wendy was so there were no big surprises revealed. However, Mike was undoubtedly more evil than expected with the little tidbit we are left with in the final chapter, so I am glad he got what he deserved! I wish Lou had been more open about what had happened to her, and it may have stopped it happening to any other girl, so is she partly to blame? Especially as she became older and was able to deal with the emotions of what had happened. Her fourteen-year-old self certainly wasn’t to blame as she was like any fourteen-year-old thinking they are older than they are and playing the part but not actually mature enough to handle it. The scary thing is how close to the reports in the news a few years ago of the schoolgirl running off with her teacher to France. I didn’t follow this story particularly but knew it was out there and that it was happening, so it’s frightening that this kind of thing happens!
