Official Blurb:

A young man’s body is found burnt and tortured by a Manchester canal.
He was a journalism student who told his friends he was working on a big story. His death leads the police on a false trail.
Detective Rachel King investigates. She has a secret, the love of her life is a well-known villain. He has recently come back on the scene. But what does he really want?
A brutal serial killer with a taste for good-looking young blonde men.
A student who thinks she has a long-lost brother. But even her own father doesn’t believe her. She was involved with the first victim.
As the murders continue, can Rachel keep her family together and stop the killer?

My Thoughts:

This book is really gritty and quite graphic. I liked that it didn’t hold anything back. We got ample time with the killer and his mind, what he had planned and his sadistic ways. Sometimes the balance between the investigation and the snippets we get of the killer in crime books are too far apart or just not enough. This book gets the balance just perfect.
The detective’s home life was all relevant, and I liked how it was all tied together as again; sometimes, their details can be insignificant, but it wasn’t in this case.
I really liked the glossary at the end of the book, the abbreviations are something that winds me up in books, so it was nice to see an author caring enough to explain them all!
Everything is tied up, I was getting to about 80% and thinking there is no way we are going to get answers to everything, but we do. However, this doesn’t mean the ending felt rushed either.
Overall the book was well structured and written. It had a good plot that was worked through with a good solid ending. Another author to add to my list!
