Light - Michael Grant
Reading Challenge Category: Modern Mrs Darcy Reading Challenge - Three books by the same author
It's been over a year since all the adults disappeared. Gone. In the time since every person over the age of fourteen disappeared from the town of Perdido Beach, California, countless battles have been fought: battles against hunger and lies and plague, and epic battles of good against evil. Light, Michael Grant's sixth and final book in the New York Times bestselling Gone series creates a masterful, arresting conclusion to life in the FAYZ. And now, the gaiaphage has been reborn as Diana's malicious mutant daughter, Gaia. Gaia is endlessly hungry for destruction. She yearns to conquer her nemesis, Little Pete, and then bend the entire world to her warped will. As long-standing enemies become allies, secrets are revealed and unexpected sacrifices are made. Will their attempts to save themselves and one another matter in the end, or will the kids of Perdido Beach perish in this final power struggle?
Wow! I’m feeling a sense of loss after finishing this last instalment of the Gone series! As the author says at the end, we have been on a 3000-page journey in the FAYZ! I was beyond devastated by some of the tragedies we endured throughout the final battles! They’ve left me shocked and raw! The ending was just perfect, though, just as I imagined it! Everything is answered and explained. You are left still wanting to follow the characters you have gotten to know and love and wanting more to devour, but you are given everything you need to know to feel satisfied. Such a brilliant end to a fantastic series! I honestly didn’t know what to expect, and as with all the books my heart was in my mouth during the battles. The horror of it all just gripping me and making me read this instalment quicker than any of the others! I read this one thinking there were three more books, but I’m a bit gutted to find out they follow completely new characters even though in the same world and same story vein. So I will look forward to reading these but think I will have a short break to really savour the feeling of this series and how it has gripped me in a way a series hasn’t done in a very long time! Absolutely brilliant and one I will read again in the future, and one I am nagging my husband to read as I just know he’ll love them too!
