Official Blurb:

Midnight.
A call out to an isolated farm on the outskirts of Oxford.
A body shot at point-blank range in the kitchen.
It looks like a burglary gone wrong, but DI Adam Fawley suspects there's something more to it. When the police discover a connection to a high-profile case from years ago, involving a child's murder and an alleged miscarriage of justice, the press go wild.
Suddenly Fawley's team are under more scrutiny than ever before. And when you dig up the past, you're sure to find a few skeletons...

My Thoughts:

Ah, this was fantastic! Back on par with books 1-4!
I almost didn’t request this as I had been so disappointed with book five last year. However, I decided to take the chance and request this, and I made the decision to re-read all of books 1-5. This did enable me to enjoy book five a little more the second time around and ensured that I went into this newest instalment ready to give the author a second chance.
I am so glad I did; I read this so fast as I was utterly gripped. We are in a brand new investigation, and Fawley’s troubles are in the past.
We have new members of the team, which made for a bit of diversity in the investigative team. It stopped the story from getting stale, covering the same members. We have fresh blood and with them new secrets, personalities and stories to tell.
The investigation itself was fantastic. I really didn’t know how it would end up; what lies were the truth and what truths were lies? Very well executed and I was hooked all the way through.
Cara Hunter was back on form with this book, and I’m hoping book five was just a blip due to lockdowns and the world being a very strange place to work in. There was just brilliance in the latest book, and all of her cleverness was back on top form. Thank you so much for restoring my faith, and I already can’t wait for book seven!!
A solid, well-deserved, five-star read!
