How far would you go to save the one you love
Morrissey Monroe must ask himself that question the day his wife and son vanish into thin air.
With investigators turning his luxury Lake Michigan estate, The Hollows, upside down and press conferences scheduled at its cold granite gates, events begin to unfold that unravel Morrissey's sanity one inexplicable happening at a time.
When secrets about Lennox Monroe are leaked to the press, buried lies resurface, threatening Morrissey's airtight alibi and squeaky clean motives in the case of his missing wife and son.
Suddenly catapulted into the spotlight, the heir to the prestigious Monroe fortune is left wondering if his precious family didn't need protecting from a sinister stranger, but a dark force much closer to home.

My Thoughts:

This was a strange one. I half enjoyed it, and half didn’t. It was gripping, and the premise of the story really held my attention, but I’m not too sure about the execution. The only reason I persevered with it was because of the good reviews it was getting so far on Goodreads.
I felt as if I’d come into someone’s world, and there were lots of inside information that I hadn’t been privy to. It was as if the author was writing this for a friend who would know the background of the characters and the story. This is the first book by this author that I have read, and it made me feel like an outsider that hadn’t been debriefed on the goings-on.
Morrissey was a strange character and wasn’t acting as you would expect of someone whose wife and child were missing. I’m sure this was to build the suspicion of his guilt. However, it just felt like he was poorly written.
The end of the book was quite interesting with all of its twists and turns, but it was somewhat overcomplicated, and you have to really concentrate on keeping up with who was doing what and why. The very end was a bit disjointed and felt as if it had been added onto the end just to give us that extra shock.
So, on the one hand, I flew through it as I wanted to know what had happened, but on the other, I kept wanting to put it in the pile of ‘did not finish’ books. I’m glad I persevered, but I don’t think I’ll be seeking out any more of this author’s work.
