Official Blurb:

You think you know the truth. The truth is you know nothing.
If your husband was murdered.
And you were a witness.
How do you explain it when he appears on your nanny cam, back from the dead?
You thought you trusted him.
Now you can't even trust yourself.

My Thoughts:

Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben, recommended by a friend and spurred on by the promising TV adaptation, turned out to be a reasonably engaging and fast-paced read. The narrative swiftly unfolded, keeping me hooked throughout. However, I found myself struggling to connect with the protagonist. Despite her ex-military background, she exuded an icy demeanour, and her actions lacked the expected precision one might associate with someone from that background. The portrayal of her tearing around in a somewhat chaotic manner left me questioning the authenticity of her character.
The plot's unexpected twist added an intriguing layer to the story, but, personally, it didn't seamlessly integrate with the overall narrative. There was a sense of discord, making me contemplate a potential re-read with this newfound information. Perhaps revisiting the book armed with the knowledge of the twist would offer a different perspective and help reconcile the disjointed feeling.
On the positive side, the novel is well-written, and Coben crafts an enjoyable tale. The writing style contributes to the book's readability, making it an average yet satisfying experience. Despite my reservations about the twist, I appreciate the effort put into the storytelling. I'm curious whether the TV adaptation might bring a different dimension to the narrative, perhaps addressing some of the nuances that left me questioning certain aspects of the book. In conclusion, Fool Me Once falls short of the lofty expectations set by the intriguing premise. Still, it remains a decent read that warrants consideration, especially for those drawn to mysteries with unexpected turns.
