Queen takes King... on and off the mat. Back on her feet after a long road of surgery and rehab, Jennifer Garrett is ready to put the last two years behind her. After breaking more bones than she knew she had and losing the only life she'd ever known, she's returning to her first love, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in the hopes that it will help her heal, and find the person she lost... herself. As the owner of the premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in the tri-state area, Matthew King is living his dream. He's always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, and now he is using his black belt to rehabilitate those in need of rebuilding, helping them find healing the way he did. But when Jennifer's doctor refers her to the best BJJ gym around, she's reluctant to walk through that door. Not because it will be a lot of work. Not because she's afraid of how weak her body has become. But because she isn't sure she's ready to face the life she could have had, or the blue-eyed black belt waiting for her on the other side.
My Thoughts:
This is a short and concise story about rehabilitation and moving on after the worst has happened. The premise behind Jennifer’s reasons for not using the gym she ends up at was a little weak. Especially with how quickly she does a 180 on her feelings for Matthew; however, if you can look past this and just read it as two people finding each other and it being a cute love story, it makes for a pleasant read. With it being very short, I didn’t feel like I really got to know the characters. Other than Matthew’s business and Jennifer’s injuries and past, we don’t really know anything else about the couple. This made it quite difficult to feel invested in the couple. Despite my few misgivings, I did enjoy the read, and it was a charming half an hour escape from reality!
