My Thoughts:

Best in the series yet! I went into this book with high expectations, looking for the impossible outcome that I expected Kim to achieve by the end. In an attempt to outguess her, I tried to read between the lines, but ironically, Kim didn't make her usual snap conclusion plucked out of nowhere this time, so more fool me!
The storyline was refreshingly different, with a unique twist that kept me engaged from start to finish. It was fantastic to see the whole team concentrating on just one investigation, allowing for deeper character development and more intricate plotting. The interplay between the team members was more pronounced, and I particularly enjoyed the dynamics between Kim and Bryant, as well as Stacey and Kev. Their partnerships continued to evolve in fascinating ways.
The pacing was spot-on, with just the right amount of tension and suspense to keep the pages turning. Marsons' writing is as sharp as ever, with vivid descriptions and realistic dialogue that bring the story to life. The case itself was complex and layered, with plenty of red herrings to keep me guessing. Each revelation added depth to the narrative, making the mystery all the more compelling.
The ending, however, was incredibly unexpected, but in a more sombre manner than usual. The fondness I have developed for the characters by reading this series so quickly made the ending all the more bittersweet. I was both shocked and devastated. Marsons doesn’t shy away from emotional punches, and this one hit particularly hard. It’s a testament to her skill as a writer that she can evoke such strong emotions from her readers.
The emotional stakes were higher in this instalment, and the consequences of the investigation felt more personal. The themes explored in this book, such as loyalty, betrayal, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets, were expertly executed. The moral ambiguities faced by the characters added a layer of complexity that I appreciated.
I am eagerly anticipating the next book to see the aftermath of these events. Angela Marsons has once again delivered a gripping, emotionally charged thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This series has consistently been a favourite of mine, and Dying Truth is a standout entry. If you’re a fan of crime fiction with well-developed characters and intricate plots, this book—and indeed the whole series—is a must-read. Marsons continues to set the bar high, and I can’t wait to see where she takes Kim Stone and her team next.
