My Thoughts:

"Blood Lines" by Angela Marsons might just be my favourite instalment in the DI Kim Stone series yet. The intensity of the investigation is gripping, and the plot is enthralling from start to finish. What truly sets this book apart is not just the frantic race against time to solve the crime but also the way it revisits a formidable antagonist, Dr Alex Thorne, from the second book. Her chilling presence weaves a darker, more desperate layer into the narrative as she schemes for her freedom and plots against Kim from her cell.
Marsons' decision to continue Thorne’s storyline rather than introduce a secondary plot was a masterstroke, providing continuity and depth that was perhaps lacking in some of the previous books. It’s a thrilling cat-and-mouse game that keeps the pages turning at an unrelenting pace.
Although the conclusion seemed slightly hurried, the build-up to the revelation felt more organic this time around. Yes, Kim's sudden piecing together of the puzzle might seem a tad convenient, but given the previous engagement with the antagonist, this leap was not only forgivable but somewhat anticipated. By the climactic moments, I was so engrossed that any quick deductions didn't detract from the satisfaction of the resolution.
In short, "Blood Lines" is a superb read, masterfully blending suspense, emotion, and psychological intrigue. Marsons excels once again, proving her knack for crafting compelling thrillers that are as intelligent as they are addictive. I’m already looking forward to seeing where she takes DI Kim Stone next.
