All the Rage - Cara Hunter

Reading Challenge Category: Free ARC from NetGalley

Official Blurb:

A teenage girl is found wandering the outskirts of Oxford, dazed and distressed. The story she tells is terrifying. Grabbed off the street, a plastic bag pulled over her face, then driven to an isolated location where she was subjected to what sounds like an assault. Yet she refuses to press charges.
DI Fawley investigates, but there's little he can do without the girl's co-operation. Is she hiding something, and if so, what? And why does Fawley keep getting the feeling he's seen a case like this before?
And then another girl disappears, and Adam no longer has a choice: he has to face up to his past. Because unless he does, this victim may not be coming back . . .

My Thoughts:

I’ve been checking NetGalley every day since May to see if this was available to receive as an ARC. So I was over the moon when it was finally there one day, and my request was approved! It was so worth the wait, this was back on par with books one and two in the series and utterly fantastic!
This has the same formula as the previous books in the series whereby there are no chapters. This really helps you move through the book at a fast pace. I kept saying “I will just read this small section”, then only one minute had passed, so “oh go on just another little bit”. Before I knew it, I was reading the outcome, and everything had been wrapped up, and I’d finished the book. Such a different and innovative way of presenting a book. I love it!
The story was both controversial and contemporary, covering a topic that is becoming more and more prevalent and commonplace in today’s society. This was handled delicately and came across as if the author had done plenty of research into the subject.
How the author keeps up with all the different threads she has going on throughout the story I do not know. She has a very complex mind to keep it all together and to bring it to a climax that covers everything. She doesn’t drop any of the threads at all. I didn’t see the outcome at all; the author kept a lot very close to her chest. Even though you are along for the ride with the detectives, you are only finding out things when the author is ready for you to. There are lots of little hooks and secrets at the end of each small section. Another ploy to keep you reading as fast as you can. Sometimes you only have to wait for a paragraph to find out what the detective’s had discovered, but other times it’s longer. It is very cleverly executed.
It’s been nine months since I read books two and three, and int did take me a little while to reacquaint myself with the main characters. If you have time before reading this one, it might be worth re-reading the previous books so that you are up to speed with the investigative team’s back story. There were small details that I couldn’t remember, but I had to put those to one side to enjoy this book (unfortunately I was too impatient to read this book and didn’t have time to re-read the others).
Overall, another brilliant read from Cara Hunter. I’m gutted I’ve got to potentially wait over a year to read any follow-ons she may have planned!
