Vanished - Tim Weaver

Reading Challenge Category: Third book in a series that I wanted to go back and start

Official Blurb:

Sam Wren gets on a Tube train . . .
And never gets off again.
Six months later, he's still missing.
There's no trace of him - or so it seems. Because the lies go deeper than anyone imagined.
And someone is watching.
Someone who knows what happened on the tube that day . . .

My Thoughts:

Tim Weaver's latest thriller, Vanished, we return to the gripping world of missing persons investigator David Raker. While this instalment might not pack the same explosive punch as its predecessor, it still manages to captivate with its parallel narratives and a puzzling aftermath. Weaver's skilful storytelling keeps readers on their toes, eager to see how the known events unfold.
The investigation in Vanished, I must admit, was somewhat tamer compared to the last book. However, what it lacks in intensity, it makes up for with an engrossing subplot involving Healey. As we delve into Healey's story and uncover the aftermath of his experiences, the narrative gains depth and becomes even more intriguing. Weaver masterfully weaves these parallel storylines, heightening our curiosity and leaving us hungry for more.
The book ends on a tantalising cliffhanger—or at least it would have if I hadn't already read the later books in the series. Nevertheless, for those who have followed the series in order, the conclusion would have undoubtedly provoked a major WHAT?!? moment. Weaver has a knack for crafting unexpected twists and turns, and the finale of Vanished is no exception. Brace yourself for a whirlwind of surprises as the pieces of the puzzle fall into place.
One aspect that remains consistent throughout Weaver's work is his ability to keep readers engaged with his intricate plotting. Vanished is no different, as the narrative takes us on a rollercoaster ride of suspense and uncertainty. The author effortlessly merges various threads, leading us down a winding path where nothing is as it seems. Every revelation adds another layer of complexity, making it nearly impossible to predict the outcome.
Although Vanished may not have reached the same heights as its predecessor, the novel still shines with its intricate storytelling and skilful execution. Fans of the series will undoubtedly relish the unexpected twists and turns that await them within these pages. As for me, I'm eagerly anticipating the next instalment to see how the unfolding events will truly transpire.
