The One You Want - Rachel Schurig

Jenny needs to figure out her life. She's tired of being a pushover, a wallflower. Tired of being alone. And, more than anything, she's tired of being controlled by her overbearing grandparents. Enter Grant. The sexy florist is new in town and Jenny is pretty sure he's the perfect candidate to help her get out from under her family’s thumb. All he has to do is pretend to be her boyfriend. Should be simple, right? But Jenny forgot about one thing—life on Lilac Bay is rarely simple. And pretending to the date the guy you're falling for is the opposite of easy.
Oh, this was so lovely, and I think Jenny and Grant are my favourite book couple ever! My emotions were up and down and all over the place while reading this. One minute I was yay, then I was oh no and almost crying, then I was swooning, then angry. Rachel did such an amazing job of being able to play with my emotions with her words in such a way. I really applaud her. I read this book so fast, too. I sat down thinking I’d just read for an hour and before I knew it two hours had flown by. It really gripped me. Jenny reminded me so much of myself. I am quite shy and don’t take risks. I manage to get talked into things and say ‘I’m fine’ when I’m not. I have three cats, and I make jewellery; unfortunately, I don’t have a trust fund! So I really found myself rooting for her happy ever after and for her to find her confidence. I totally get how Grant brought that out in her, as my husband does that for me, he is my life cheerleader. The book was written so seamlessly; the misunderstandings fit in well with the story. I’m often frustrated by these because if the couple just talked they wouldn’t happen. However, in this case, it made sense that Jenny didn’t voice what she was thinking because of everything that had happened to her in the summer and the past. Her shyness and vulnerability didn’t help either. So, this all worked really well. I liked the gradual build-up of confidence she started to find with the Libbies, this was really endearing and heartwarming. I do love Lilac Bay, and I think I have said it before that I’d love to live there. Maybe not being cut off in winter but certainly for the camaraderie between everyone. The farm at the end sounded terrific. I’d like to have chickens, more cats and a cow! I was very envious of her! This was the absolutely perfect book for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I’d been reading some terrible books lately, so I really needed this to turn my reading around and to pick my mood up. So thank you, Rachel, for writing the most fantastically splendid book! I wonder who is next to star in a Lilac Bay book?
