My Thoughts:

I must confess that this particular Shalini Boland offering thoroughly disappoints me. Having recommended this book for our book club retreat, I had high expectations, knowing her knack for crafting fast-paced and exhilarating narratives. Unfortunately, "The Child Next Door" did not uphold this reputation.
The narrative plodded along with the main character seemingly running aimlessly, leaving me to wonder about the lack of a clear direction. Moments of excitement and intrigue were few and far between, making the reading experience rather dull and uninspiring. It felt as if nothing substantial was unfolding for an extended period, and when events did finally transpire, they left me with a sense of profound disappointment.
However, one redeeming aspect of the book was the engaging discussions it sparked during our retreat. While the story itself fell short of our expectations, the sheer disappointment led to lively chats within the group as we tried to decipher what might be happening. We came up with some outlandish theories that ultimately didn't materialise.
The conclusion, regrettably, failed to deliver the much-anticipated climax we had hoped for, leaving us dissatisfied. The epilogue, in particular, seemed extraneous, and in retrospect, it might have been more satisfying if it had been incorporated into the main narrative as the grand reveal.
In summary, "The Child Next Door" by Shalini Boland was a letdown, deviating from the author's usual captivating style. While it did foster vibrant discussions, the lacklustre plot and underwhelming conclusion left me with a sense of disappointment that was difficult to ignore.
