Tell Me a Secret - Jane Fallon
Reading Challenge Category: Free ARC from NetGalley
Holly and Roz spend most of their days together. They like the same jokes, loathe the same people and tell each other everything. So when single mum Holly gets a shot at her dream job after putting everything on hold to raise her daughter, she assumes her friend will be dying to pop the champagne with her. But is she just imagining things, or is Roz not quite as happy for her as she should be? As Holly starts to take a closer look at Roz's life outside their friendship, she begins to discover a few things that don't add up. Who is the woman who claims to be her ally? Perhaps it was a mistake to tell Roz all her secrets. Because it takes two to forge a friendship. But it only takes one to wage a war . . .
Wow, this was brilliant. It was so different from last year’s book (or rather this year January 2018), and unlike her other books which are usually about a woman getting revenge or a woman scorned. This didn’t have any romance in it and concentrated on friendships instead and how you should keep your friends close but your enemies closer. The story was really well developed and written. It even had you doubting everyone, who could you trust?! I’ve read some good books this year but every now and again one comes along and reminds you how brilliant a book can be, and this one did that for me. It was just a higher class of writing, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages wanting more. I even found myself thinking about the book when I wasn’t reading, and then you truly know the book has gotten its grip and won’t let you go until you’ve finished it! I had been a little worried as when I read the last book I was somewhat underwhelmed as I felt the story was a bit repetitive and obvious. I’d still enjoyed it, but I was expecting something of the same from this one. However, Fallon has completely outdone herself with this latest novel; it is utterly superb! I can’t believe I have to potentially wait over a year now for her next book!
