Nine Perfect Strangers - Liane Moriarty

Reading Challenge Category: A book you will most likely enjoy

Official Blurb:

Nine perfect strangers, each hiding an imperfect life.
A luxury retreat cut off from the outside world.
Ten days that promise to change your life.
But some promises - like some lives - are perfect lies . . .

My Thoughts:

I chose this book for my Reading Challenge Category ‘A book you will most likely enjoy’ as there hasn’t been a Liane Moriarty book yet that I’ve not loved. This was no exception! I had no clue what direction the book was going to take as the premise is very short, so I went in with no preconceptions just the expectation of enjoyment!
A lot is going on, to begin with, as we are being introduced to all of the characters. The first chapter really drawers you in with a paramedic attending a woman who was refusing to believe that she was having a heart attack. She was a workaholic and didn’t want to waste time by being ill. You are gripped instantly wanting to know what was going to happen to her. However, you are catapulted, in the second chapter, ten years in the future and are meeting a new character.
We don’t initially get insights into the ‘nine perfect strangers’ lives; some are more prominent than others. However, I think by the end of the book we have been in the minds of them all. There are also chapters dedicated to the team running the health resort.
As I was reading, I was content with it being a happy ever after book. One that had self-enlightenment for the characters and that processed at a steady speed. However, all of a sudden, the book takes a more sinister twist. I was enthralled by what was happening and what the outcome would be. I believed everything that was happening and felt for all of the characters.
The book does have a happy ending, but it took a different route to get there than I was expecting. This strange and unforeseen diversion was very welcome and really made the book fantastic.
After reading this, I wanted to immediately sign myself up for a health spa, even though I’d hate the food and be one of the constant moaners.
Overall, another superb book by Liane Moriarty and I’m looking forward to whatever she entertains us with next!
