Official Blurb:
Two weeks. One unforgettable trip to Corfu. A chance to change her life. Becky Rose has just landed her dream job house-sitting at a top-end villa on the island of Corfu. What could be better than two weeks laying by an infinity pool overlooking the gorgeous Ionian waters while mending her broken heart. Elias Mardas is travelling back to Corfu on business whilst dealing with his own personal demons. Late arriving in Athens, Becky and Elias have to spend a night in the Greek capital. When they have to emergency land in Kefalonia, Becky's got to decide whether to suck up the adventure and this gorgeous companion she seems to have been thrown together with or panic about when she's going to arrive at Corfu... Finally reaching the beautiful island, Becky is happy to put Elias behind her and get on with her adventure. Until he turns up at the villa...
My Thoughts:
I was just in the mood for some summer sun reading, and this was the perfect book. Due to missing out on our annual holiday to Cyprus this year, I thought seeking out one of Mandy Baggot’s Corfu books would be the next best thing. Both are steeped in Greekness, so I thought that it might sate my appetite, and it certainly did! It sent me off on an imaginary holiday abroad. I loved the adventures that led up to Becky’s stay on Corfu. This really set the book up and allowed us to get to know the characters before settling down for their holiday. Petra was such a fantastic character, and I loved how she had no filter over anything she said. The chemistry between Becky and Elias was brilliantly written. The only minor gripe I have with it was it went a bit flat once they started to accept each others’ feelings. The spark seemed to disappear. Overall, this was a brilliant book to escape all of the present-day realities. Coronavirus is mentioned in passing at the beginning of the book (I think two times, maybe three), but a big deal isn’t made of it; it is simply there as a reference. I’m glad it wasn’t properly interwoven into the story, as it would certainly have ruined it. As it was, it was just perfect. This is only the second Mandy Baggot book that I have read (both based on Corfu), so I am looking forward to reading all of her back catalogue and allowing her to take me on a journey through the pages to some more sunny places.
