My Thoughts:

"Lost Girls" by Angela Marsons is a compelling and intricately woven crime thriller, full of chilling details that push the boundaries of its genre without tipping into gore. The book's graphic narrative vividly paints the grim realities faced by its characters, enhancing the atmospheric tension throughout. I found myself utterly engrossed, tearing through the pages with a fervent need to uncover the truths hidden beneath the surface.
Marsons's skill in crafting a murky, suspense-filled plot is evident as she masterfully leads us through a labyrinth of twists and turns. However, the journey, thrilling as it was, led to a conclusion that, frankly, fell short of expectations. The resolution seemed hurried and underwhelming, with the plausibility of the third suspect leaving much to be desired. It seemed as if the reveal was conjured from thin air, lacking the meticulous groundwork that a story of this nature demands.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a secondary investigation felt somewhat superfluous this time around. Unlike its predecessor, this subplot did not seem to add significant value to the main narrative, serving instead as a mere distraction. One gets the impression that this might be a recurring theme in Marsons's series, a narrative structure I hope either evolves or becomes more integral in future instalments.
Overall, "Lost Girls" is a gripping read with its fair share of flaws. Despite the anticlimactic conclusion and less convincing elements of the plot, Marsons's ability to keep the reader on their toes is undeniable. For fans of crime thrillers seeking a journey filled with suspense and dark details, this book will satisfy, even if the destination might not.
