Official Blurb:

Elspeth Crandall is the most delectable morsel in the room, and I am a starving man. Nevertheless, I'm surprised when she accepts my offer to spend some one-on-one time together at my place. She doesn't seem like a vixen, but she's got what I'm craving, and who am I to question fate?
In our short time together, I realize she is more than I ever dreamed of, and like a fool, I let her walk out the door.
Kane Raventon is walking sex on a stick. He's not the kind of guy who notices girls like me. When he comes to my rescue with an invitation to escape a crappy situation, I don't resist. He's nothing like I expected. Then a voice from my past reminds me of how this will end, and I know what I have to do.
I won't keep making the same mistakes - not even for Kane Raventon.

My Thoughts:

I really look forward to Laney Powell’s contribution to the Flirt Club’s collaboration; however, this one has let me down somewhat. It didn’t seem to be written in her usual sophisticated style. The story felt rushed. Something I usually like about Laney is that, no matter how short the story, is she doesn’t often miss out details or hurry the story along. They are usually developed and feel much longer than they are. That was not the case with this book.
There was no chemistry between the characters; you didn’t feel the usual pull of attraction between them. It seemed more of a convenience than anything that they bumped into each other at Kane’s bar. The drama that Elspeth created by walking away felt forced and wasn’t that interesting. I didn’t feel like I was rooting for them to get together as I normally would.
We are given a little of a back story for the characters but not enough to feel like we know them and want them to succeed in everything they do. The only real redeemable character trait for Elspeth was that she liked cats.
I’m really sorry, but this book just wasn’t for me, maybe I had too high expectations from the author as I have loved all of her books that I have read so far. I even hunted down some of her back catalogue (not part of the Flirt Club collaborations) as I liked her style of writing, but something was missing in this one.
