Fear - Michael Grant
Reading Challenge Category: Modern Mrs Darcy Reading Challenge - Three books by the same author
It's been one year since all the adults disappeared. Gone. Despite the hunger, despite the lies, even despite the plague, the kids of Perdido Beach are determined to survive. Creeping into the tenuous new world they've built, though, is the worst incarnation yet of the enemy known as the Darkness: fear. Within the FAYZ, life breaks down while the Darkness takes over—turning the dome-world of the FAYZ entirely black. A will to survive and a desire to take care of those they love endure in this ravaged band, even in the bleakest moments. But in darkness, the worst fears of all emerge, and the cruelest of intentions are carried out. After so many months, is all about to be lost in the FAYZ?
I’ve wanted to get stuck into this for weeks now but other books needed to take priority! So I’ve been chomping at the bit to pick it up and carry on the story! That first chapter made me wish I’d done it sooner! Wow! I was so excited while reading it; it’s what we’ve been waiting to find out! As all the other books so far in the series, this was spectacular! For over 500 pages I just read it so fast, it had to be devoured, you have to know how they are going to get themselves out of the problems they keep finding themselves in! The story really moves on in this book, and we start to see the end game (there is only one more book after this one)! So much happens, and there are situations that you think they won’t survive! The ending is really sad it makes you realise that no matter how this series ends, there isn’t going to be a real happy ever after! How can there be after everything the kids have been through and how they’ve survived without grown-ups! They are grown up now even if their age disagrees! The only tiny thing that lets me down with these books are Sam’s insecurities; he yo-yos back and forth between what he wants as a role in the FAYZ. It happens in every book, and it’s a little tiresome! However, that aside I think this along with book two, was the best in the series so far! I’m definitely not leaving it as long before I read book six!
