My Thoughts:

When our book club chose "Endless Night" by Agatha Christie for our February read, I wasn't exactly jumping for joy. I've never been inclined to pick up a Christie novel, so this was uncharted territory for me. I went into it with an open mind, hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but I ended up feeling pretty neutral about the whole experience.
The book was an easy read; I'll give it that. I managed to finish it quickly, which was a relief since it never really grabbed my attention. The story unfolds slowly, and there's not much in the way of excitement or intrigue until you get to the end. Even then, the payoff didn't feel worth the buildup. The plot twist at the end, meant to be the big reveal, felt underwhelming.
One aspect that stood out to me was how dated the book felt. The language and tone reflect its age, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it added to the feeling that I was reading something out of step with my usual tastes. It felt more like a historical artefact than a piece of entertainment.
"Endless Night" strays from what I was expecting of an Agatha Christie novel. Instead of a gripping mystery or a clever puzzle to solve, the book reads more like a love story with a dark twist. That's not what I was hoping for when I picked up the book. I was looking for something to keep me on the edge of my seat, not a melodramatic romance.
Despite its quick pace, the book left me feeling indifferent. There wasn't a particular moment or character that made me invested in the story. It was as if I was just going through the motions of reading without getting much in return. The characters, the setting, the plot—it all just felt flat to me.
Ultimately, "Endless Night" wasn't a hit with me. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't excite me or make me think. It was just... there. A book I read because it was chosen for me, not one I would have picked up on my own. Based on this experience, I'm not eager to dive into more of Christie's work. Maybe her style just isn't for me, or perhaps this wasn't the proper introduction to her writing. Either way, I'm moving on to the next book on my list, hoping for a bit more excitement and engagement.
