Dirty Dessert - Dori Lavelle
Reading Challenge Category: A catch-up Flirt Club book
Official Blurb:
Two years ago, right before our wedding, Ernest Ressler left without an apology. Heartbroken, I abandoned my life and vowed to never love a man again. Now Ernest is back with an explanation… and asking for a second helping at love. But it’s complicated... I’m not the woman he left behind. Just being with him is a sin. My new home is a cloistered convent, open to the public only on Thanksgiving. Becoming a nun is how I escaped from memories of him. Now he wants me. Bad. And suddenly I want to get on my knees… but not to pray. Forgive me, Father. But if it’s wrong, why does it feel so right?
My Thoughts:
I usually enjoy Dori Lavelle’s books and find them more sophisticated than some of the others I read. This one, however, was a letdown. The story itself was so far-fetched, and the more ludicrous aspects that were added, the more I rolled my eyes. We have thanksgiving, nuns, a mobster murder, lung cancer, a misdiagnosis and twins all within the confines of a 29-page story! I was actually quite excited by the beginning of the story as I don’t think I have ever read one of these type books that starts off with the girl as a nun. I was interested to see where the story would go, but when Ernest returns and starts to explain what happened, my jaw just hit the floor and not in a good way. It was so outlandish and nonsensical I just couldn’t get on board with the characters or the story as a whole. The ending, as well, is a cliche times two as we end on twins. So, overall this was a strange and bizarre read, and I am thankful for its shortness.
