The Devil’s Advocate - Steve Cavanagh

Reading Challenge Category: A new book in the series I’ve been reading

Official Blurb:

Ambitious District Attorney Randal Korn lives to watch prisoners executed.
Even if they are not guilty.
An innocent man, Andy Dubois, faces the death penalty for the murder of young girl. Korn has already fixed things to make sure he wins a fast conviction.
The one thing Korn didn't count on was Eddie Flynn.
Slick, street smart and cunning, the former con artist turned New York lawyer has only seven days to save an innocent man against a corrupt system and find the real killer.
In a week the Judge will read the verdict, but will Eddie be alive to hear it?

My Thoughts:

This was definitely the best in the series so far!
I have just read the series from the beginning, including re-reading the last two books. This one had me gripped and was completely different from anything else in the series. Yes, Eddie’s life and those of everyone he cares for are still in danger, but we are no longer in New York; we have been taken to Alabama. Everything is different here, and Eddie has to learn the new rules of play quickly and get even cleverer than he usually is.
The defendant and the crimes being committed were really intriguing, and I could definitely see this book being played out on TV or as a movie one day. It was a very complex but fascinating topic that was being covered. I have very opposing beliefs towards the death penalty, and the thought of anyone innocent or not having to face that is not a pleasant thought for me. So I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I kept feeling drawn back to the story, and I found myself making time to sit down and read. I haven’t done this in ages and usually just read before bed, but this made me want to throw caution to the wind and read it at any time I could! This is always a good testament to how fantastic a book is.
I only have one book left in the series, and I’m really excited to see where that one takes me!
