Death’s Door - Paul Finch

Reading Challenge Category: Free from Amazon

Official Blurb:

Obsession makes the heart grow fonder . . .
When a stalking case lands on DS ‘Heck’ Heckenburg’s desk it seems pretty straightforward.
But when Heck discovers that the victim lives in the same house that a young woman was brutally murdered in six years earlier, instinct tells him that it’s not so simple after all.
Before long Heck is entangled in something far more dangerous than he had expected. In a race against the clock, can Heck and Gemma stop history from repeating itself – or will they end up getting caught in the crossfire?

My Thoughts:

I was a little apprehensive starting this. Firstly, I got it free from Amazon, and secondly, it was only 105 pages long. I thought I’d give it ago with it being free, but I didn’t expect much in such a short space.
However, this was a really compelling read.
As much as I would have liked the book to be longer so that I could completely immerse myself in the story, I didn’t feel as if I’d missed out on anything. Everything is explained, all details are covered. You feel as if you have gotten to know the characters. Nothing was left unsaid. So saying all that maybe it was the perfect length and would have been ruined had it have been any longer.
The storyline felt well developed, it had a great backstory to the crime, and I felt like the detectives covered all the bases investigating. It had more action than expected, and this was probably the primary focus of the book. Rather than the investigative side to the crime, it was very much about apprehending the culprit.
For such a small book I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I might hunt down some of this author’s other work.
