Official Blurb:

Rebecca Crow’s four-year-old son is dead, and her husband is missing.
Divers find her husband’s car at the bottom of a canal with their son’s small, lifeless body, inside. The police have no suspects and nothing to go on but a passing mention of a man driving a van. Guilt and grief cloud Rebecca’s thoughts as she stumbles towards her only mission: Revenge.
James Porter knows exactly what happened to them, but he’ll do anything to keep it a secret.
James didn’t plan to kill Rebecca’s son, but he’s not too broken up about it, either. There are more important things for him to worry about. He needs money, and his increasing appetite for murder is catching the attention of a nosy detective.

My Thoughts:

This was an unexpectedly good read. I received this book free from the author in return for a review. I’m always quite sceptical about these requests as I’m never sure what I am going to end up reading. However, I can honestly say that this was a pleasant surprise. I’m not sure what genre the book falls into as it wasn’t quite crime, it had a lot of drama, but it was way too sinister to be that. It had a lot of gruesome descriptions so maybe thriller?
We are alternating between two characters; we know who the ‘bad guy’ is right from the start. James is a low-level criminal who gets his kicks from stealing from the innocent, but he’s started to up his ante and started a killing spree that will be his downfall.
Rebecca receives a phone call from her husband to say he’s going to be late home; she doesn’t realise that this will be the last time she speaks to him and will also offer the clue she needs to seek her vengeance.
I was quite shocked by some of the descriptions; they are very graphic and hard-hitting. So this book is not for the fainthearted! And if you’re an animal lover like me, you may even shed some tears, want to throw the book across the room and go and save all the animals in the world who have been mistreated!
I didn’t expect the book to take the turn that it did. I was wondering during the first half where the story could go as we knew who the villain was. However, you in for a great ride with this book it really keeps you guessing, gasping and turning the page to see how it will end.
I’m delighted Holly Rae Garcia reached out to me and that I gave this book a try. It is not long, at only 266 pages and feels even shorter as you rush through it. An imaginative and superb story.
