If I’d Known - Paige P. Horne
Reading Challenge Category: A book that gets an average overall rating of at least 4.5 on Goodreads
Time is a thief they say, and if you’re not careful it’ll slip right past you, taking everything you hold dear in this world with it. It was the summer of 1972 when I first laid eyes on him. Cynthia Rose probably got more than she bargained for when she came to my door step asking to write about my story. Our story. To everyone else Travis Cole was just the bad boy, but to me he was the keeper of my heart and even as time aged us and miles kept us apart, my heart stayed his. Forever his.

Wow, I’m going to make a huge statement now. This is the best book I have read this year (and I’m currently on book 81!) This totally took me by surprise; I haven’t been particularly looking forward to reading it as I thought with it having gotten such good an excellent rating on Goodreads it was going to be convoluted and pompous. I was so wrong! I’d struggled to chosoe a book for this category as all the books were very much out of my comfort zone or classics that I have no interest in reading. So I discovered this on page 5 or something of the list I found of books that have a rating of 4.5 or more and thought this is the best of the bunch. It is so much more than that it is a truly heartwarming and heartbreaking story. Be prepared for flood works while reading this, I was actually sobbing at the end. One of the things I hate the most is lost time or wasting time. You can never get it back, and this book drives this home more than anything. The first sentence in the blurb couldn’t be more accurate “Time is a thief (…), and if you’re not careful it’ll slip right past you (…)”. This is a book about awakening the heart after the worst has happened. Charlotte embarks on a journey of reminiscing and enlightenment with her two new friends who help each other heal. It is so wonderfully written that you are drawn in right from the start. The characters are likeable and relatable. Throughout the chapters, we go back and forth in time telling a story of love, hope and loss. I really can see why it has achieved such a fantastic score on Goodreads, and I wish more people knew of this book and this story! To know this is based on a true story is even more tragic and made me cry even more! I don't think this review is even giving it justice, so all I can say, is see for yourself, read this, and you won't be disappointed! If I did ten stars out of five, then it would get that!
